A Chasm Between Both
Every day, more and more often, they found that shadow, that door. Between them, Aristobulus and Elisa, was that shadow, that door and a black, dark abyss as death alone, like feeling that someone has died in life with us at that moment. There was that door right there with an arrogant attitude. Aristobulus would one day kick that door that separated them. Elisa had told him, after they had been together for three months and a bit, “there is an abyss between you and me.” But then the door came up between them, which was more of a wall than a door. Elisa tried to jump over the abyss, and still attempted to do so in some of her moments of leisure. In those moments, her heart pumped so hard in her chest that it tore her blouse, she turned purple, she rolled up her sleeves, tightened her belt, prayed a few prayers and jumped with passion. But she was immediately aware that the jump had been in vain. She cursed her physical education teacher for not teaching her to jump properly. One day, she managed to jump over the abyss and when she did she wondered, “Was that all?” And then she realized that the issue was not jumping over the abyss, but to erase it, to make the abyss disappear. She bought a map, studied the location of this abyss to perfection and moved heaven and earth to made it disappear. Then a few days later, she realized that now she would have to get rid of the abyss that Aristobulus carried against her within himself. And for this she must first get rid of the abyss that she carried within herself. The issue was complicated. And to overcome the struggle with the abyss, she had to fight against her own thoughts and this meant erasing that idea from her mind. The more she wanted to forget it… the more she remembered it… and when she began to forget it, Aristobulus reminded her, “Remember, my love, between you and me there is an abyss,” he said to her. There was no way to get rid of that absurd thought… so much so that she became used to living with the idea of the abyss between them.
Subsequently, or perhaps earlier, as Elisa did not even remember precisely, that wall arose between them. Oh the suffering of those two! Aristobulus was the first to notice the presence of the wall and the first, obviously, to try to get to the other side of it … and yet, when he was about to pass, strength failed him, probably because he smoked heavily, and he fell to the ground, depressed. The wall grew higher every day, bricks and more bricks they added… and both, sometimes together, sometimes independently, tried to accomplish this feat… and it seemed possible. Aristobulus at times cried like a child who could not have the toy he wanted. After crying, drying his tears and blowing his nose, he would say, “Life presents us sometimes with horrible little games like these, who would have thought! Who would have thought that my fate would be to fight a wall and jump over an abyss! This is worse than Martin Valiente, godson of the devil!”
This couple was treated by a team of renowned psychiatrists, who confessed themselves unable to resolve their dispute. One of these psychiatrists became interested in the case and they say that it was because of the abyss that separated Aristobulus and Elisa. A police officer investigated the matter thoroughly and even managed to cross over to the other side of the wall, the trouble is that he could not return.
Since he met Elisa, Aristobulus knew there was something about her that told him that they were never going to get along. But… these warning ideas were useless… from the beginning, he was a victim of Elisa’s magic. She was attractive as danger and challenging as a knife… yet also tender and moving when he touched the most sensitive fiber of her being. Soon came the jealousy, then there was more jealousy, a little later irony, and then later anger, malice, resentment, insults, beatings… until one day… crazy… without knowing what he did, and killed her with kisses and he wanted her so much… that he threw himself into the abyss… because seeing that he could not beat his enemy, he joined her.
